• The keypad works from the outside but not from the inside, or vice versa. One of the two keypad assemblies or its pigtail has failed. On the 1830 series, inside and outside keypads run on separate inputs to the main board, so one can die while the other keeps working.

DIY or Call Us?

Any DoorKing keypad or intercom is a low-voltage DC system: typically 16 to 24 volts, not a shock hazard in the way a household AC circuit is. But the honest safety caveat is this: on a 1830-series unit, the keypad and intercom connect to the same control board that switches the operator’s high-current motor circuits. One misplaced 24-volt lead onto a 120-volt AC terminal will destroy the board and can give you a shock. Also, any time you’re opening an outdoor electrical enclosure that’s been exposed to three years of Chatsworth rain, you’re dealing with corrosion, brittle connectors, and insulation that flakes off in your hands.
