- Card reader clicks but won’t release the gate. The reader has power and is reading credentials, but the Wiegand signal isn’t reaching the BFT board. Usually a wiring or grounding issue, occasionally a fried reader output stage.

Here’s the split. You can safely check the obvious: confirm the panel has power, check the circuit breaker, and test whether the remote still opens the gate while the keypad does not. That last test is genuinely useful, it tells us whether the operator itself is still good.
What you shouldn’t do is open a BFT control board and start moving wires. Board replacement involves low-voltage but a wrong connection across the safety edge circuit, the photo-eye, or the motor relay can fry a healthy board and turn a $500 repair into a $900 gate rebuild.
