Welded Repair on a Sagging Driveway Gate Frame
The gate looked fine from the street, but the latch had been difficult to close for months and the bottom rail was dragging on the driveway. We found a stress crack through the bottom rail and a hinge post that had shifted. We welded the crack, added a gusset plate at the hinge, and realigned the gate so it closed with one hand. The gate would start to close and then reverse for no obvious reason, sometimes three or four times before it stayed shut. The photo eye, the infrared beam that stops the gate if something crosses the path, had been knocked roughly two inches out of alignment and was aimed into a planter bed. We reseated the sensor, aligned it with the reflector, and ran the gate through ten full cycles to confirm it closed on the first attempt every time. Gate Opener Arm Bracket Failure on a Solar-Powered System
This solar-powered opener had stopped moving the gate entirely. The arm bracket had bent during a period when the gate was left unlatched and caught the wind, and the solar panel had settled out of angle enough that the battery was running low. We replaced the bracket with a heavier gauge, corrected the panel angle, and confirmed the battery was charging at the expected rate. The record left with the homeowner included the voltage readings before and after the panel adjustment.
